Gen 2 - Chapter 5: Bonica Nena

We only had to stay in hospital for a few hours until we were allowed home, I was so relieved the birth went well, and that I had delivered our beautiful 5lb 6oz little girl safely, and naturally. I cradled her in the nook of my arm as we left the hospital and made our way home as a family.

I took her up to her room and snuggled her close, breathing in her gorgeous newborn smell. As I held my gorgeous baby in my arms I knew I would love and protect her for as long as forever. She was now my world! I wasn't sure who she took after yet, although I thought she looked a lot like her doting Daddy. I snuggled her once more and placed her in her crib for a nap, we were all worn out after a long and eventful night.

I made my way downstairs to put a load of washing in only to find Jacob had already sorted it. He kissed me and told me to go to bed, and that he would bring me up a cup of tea. I had a quick shower and changed into my pyjamas before giving Kayleigh her feed and settling her down for the night. I didn't realise how tired I was until my head hit the pillow.

When I woke it was still dark, I could hear a soft gurgling coming from the nursery, so I climbed out of bed and made my way there. My heart melted at the sight that was right in front of me, Jacob was snuggling our daughter close to him and singing softly to her, pacing the room trying to get her to sleep. I slowly crept in and stood beside him just watching them. She was staring at him so intently, with such wonder in her eyes. Slowly her eyes started to close and he placed her in the crib, after tucking her in we made our way back to bed for our own snuggle.

The next time I opened my eyes the sun was shining, I realised Kayleigh had only had one feed throughout the whole night, I was impressed. I thought that with a newborn in the house sleep would become a distant memory, I really hope she sleeps like that every night. I made my way downstairs to grab a bowl of cereal before she awoke and started screaming the house down to be fed, I had just finished it when I heard the first whimper, so I made my way to her room.

She was wriggling in her crib cooing at her mobile, until she saw me that is. I guess she was hungry, I scooped her up in my arms and sat myself in the rocking chair so I could feed her comfortably. She was suckling happily when Jacob came in, he kissed us both before heading off to work. I was looking forward to my first proper day as a Mummy.

After she had finished feeding I changed her diaper and bathed her so she was nice and clean, before placing her back in her crib so that I could do the housework. I managed to get the washing up, hoovering, and hang the clothes on the line before she wanted feeding again, I went up to the nursery and cosied myself in the chair that would become very familiar over the next few months.

Kayleigh was now six months old, the time had gone by so fast, she wasn't so much a baby anymore. She could sit un-aided, was eating solids and I had stopped breast-feeding, it wouldn't be long before it would be her first birthday. I was longing to give her a brother or sister and had decided to quit my job to be a stay at home Mum. Jacob was earning enough money to support the family now that he had been promoted to surgeon, I thought now would be the perfect time to start trying for another. I waited until Kayleigh was settled down for the night to tell Jacob how I was feeling, I was a little surprised when he said that he had wanted another since Kayleigh was born, and that we should get started right away. He grabbed my hand and led me up to our bedroom...

Now she was a little older Kayleigh had started sleeping through the night and still had two naps during the day, which meant I could get all the household chores finished before lunch, so that I could spend the rest of the afternoon playing with her. Then it would be time for her nap while I made dinner ready for when Jacob arrived home, I would serve dinner while he woke Kayleigh up from her nap and give her her bottle and place her on the play mat while we ate.

It was nearing Kayleigh's first birthday when I started noticing the familiar feelings of nausea, as before I made an appointment with the doctor, who confirmed my suspicions. It wouldn't be long before we had another addition to our gorgeous little family, Jacob was ecstatic when I told him, just as I thought he would be. We decided to keep it just between us until after Kayleigh's birthday party, so as not to overshadow her big day.

Since it was also Leo's birthday a few days before Kayleigh's I suggested to Lily that we throw a joint party for them at the house, to which she agreed. We chose to arrange everything for Saturday, she would bring the cakes and balloons if I sorted the music and food.

Saturday soon arrived, I was more than a little excited to be seeing my daughter and my nephew growing into gorgeous toddlers. I put the stereo on and got the buffet ready and had the presents all wrapped and in the party room, all that was left to do was wake the birthday girl. Mum and dad were the first to arrive, I was a bit disappointed that Grandad Billy couldn't make it as he was slowly getting worse, but bed was the right place for him at the minute. I promised mum I would take Kayleigh round to see him during the week. Leo was the first to blow out his candles, seeing as he was the oldest, my he was a handsome little boy, he looked so much like his Daddy.

He opened his presents, we bought him a tiger and a musical xylophone which he loved. He spent the rest of the afternoon playing with it.

Kayleigh was up next, Jacob bought her to her cake and blew out the candles with her, my god she was gorgeous and she had inherited dad's beautiful red hair and gorgeous green eyes too.

Our daughter had grown into a beautiful toddler, now all we had to do was await the birth of our second child, while spending as much time as we could teaching Kayleigh to walk and talk.

Stay tuned for chapter 6 :)
