Gen 3 - Chapter 15: Amber!

Looking back on the past three years, my life has never been more perfect. I have a loving Husband, and two wonderful children. What more could I ask for? Alex was so happy when I agreed to another baby, he couldn't wipe the smile off his face for weeks.

After the deaths of both my Grandparents I was understandably upset and didn't notice that I had missed my period, after all we had been trying for almost a year and I was beginning to give up hope of me ever getting pregnant. I can remember the day I told Alex I was finally pregnant like it was yesterday, of course I was incredibly nervous... my stomach was doing somersaults and the nauseousness had nothing to do with my morning sickness. The look on his face was a mixture of shock and delight, he could see that I was worried and done his best to reassure me each and every day.

He fell into 'Daddy' mode right away and listened, played peek-a-boo, and chatted to my belly from that day. Though I couldn't help but feel this is what it should have been like with Jasper. As each month gradually progressed I started to relax and allow myself to enjoy being pregnant and realised I couldn't wait to meet our precious baby.

I spent a lot of my pregnancy playing games with Alex and Jasper, or painting in the garden. It seemed to help me relax, so I guess it was no surprise when I felt the first twinge whilst in the middle of my latest work of art. At first I thought it was a braxton hicks contraction and just continued my painting, but a few second later a massive tidal wave of pain hit me and I screamed out for Alex.

Alex came running out and shrieked in panic, not knowing what to do. I screamed at him to call an ambulance, I needed to push and knew it was too late to get to the hospital. I made myself comfy on one of our sun loungers and prepared to push our baby into the world.

Alex joined me back outside side a few minutes later with blankets and some water for me.

"I think the baby's coming, you need to check Alex..." I said through gritted teeth as another contraction hit and the urge to push was even stronger.

"I... I... I can see it's head Kay. Keep pushing baby, you're doing great." Tears were flowing down his cheeks and he looked at me and smiled.

With one more final push I delivered our baby, just as the ambulance turned up.

"Congratulations you have a healthy baby girl." announced the midwife.

The midwife handed Alex our daughter as he joined me on the lounger.

"We have a daughter Kay!" He beamed.

We still hadn't really settled on a name, but after seeing her tufts of red hair I suggested we name her Amber, Alex nodded, not able to tear his eyes away from her for a second.

As he fussed over her and prepared a bottle for her I made myself comfy in our bed, it wasn't long before exhaustion took over and I was sleeping soundly. I was awoken a couple of hours later by her soft gurgles, I slowly climbed out of bed and scooped her up, noticing the instant rush of love as I did so.

Amber has just had her first birthday and is a real Daddy's girl. She loves nothing more than snuggling up in her Daddy's arms and taking a nap, or being tickled by him. You can see just how much he really does love both her and Jasper, becoming a Dad again really bought out the best in him. He got stuck in with every aspect of her life from day one, and can always be found playing with her or attempting to get her to walk.

Jasper dotes on his little Sister too, when he's home that is. Since starting High school he's made more than a few friends and is always round their houses hanging out. I've seen him with more than a few girls too, I just hope that he knows how to treat them right.

I don't know if it's because she was born outside or not, but Amber is always wanting to take her toys out there to play, and more often than not I'll find her covered in dirt playing in the flower bed. she throws a massive temper tantrum and cries out for her "Dada" if she isn't allowed outside for any reason, although just one look at her sweet little face and I crumble, opening the door for her.

I made a promise to her the day she was born, I would make sure she never felt pain and heartache like I did, even if it was all more than worth it.
