Gen 2 - Chapter 10: School days

Authors Note: This chapter will be told from Kayleigh's POV.

I woke up at 6:30am so I had plenty of time to get myself ready for school. I was a little excited, but mostly nervous about my first day. I was really glad my best friend Kitty would be there with me, we had hung out almost everyday during the holidays and had become almost inseparable. Our favourite thing to do was have a sleepover at each others houses every Friday and Saturday night, we would stay up late watching DVDs and eating snacks made by either my Mum or Kitty's Dad. It was so much fun.

I got myself washed and changed into my uniform, and made my way downstairs. Mum must have been up before me because there was already a plate of waffles on the table, I sat down and ate them while they were still warm. Mmmmm waffles with plenty of maple syrup, Mum always knows what I like best.

After clearing my plate away I gave Mum a hug and shouted bye to Dad, who was upstairs getting ready for work. Me and Kitty has agreed with Mum that we would walk to school, as it was only a few blocks away and it was a beautiful sunny day. The park was on the way, so we decided to stop and play on the swings for a few minutes, it was so much fun.

After about five minutes I told Kitty we had better get going before we were late. I Didn't want to look like the stupid late kid on my first day. We managed to get there just as the bell went off, Mum said all new students needed to meet in the main hall, so we made our way there. Once there we sat down and listened to the head-teacher as we were sorted into houses and forms. I was so pleased to be in the same classes as Kitty, I couldn't imagine going through school without being in the same class as her.

As assembly finished we were handed our books and giggled and chatted while we made our way to our first class, which was maths. Me and Kitty sat together at the table at the back of the room, there were only a few other kids in our class. Me and Kitty were enjoying our first maths lesson, so far we were learning about adding and dividing. While I was looking around at the other students I noticed a dark-haired girl sneering at me, I wonder what her problem is. I whispered to Kitty and she looked at the girl and pulled a funny face at her, I had to try to giggle as quietly as I could so that the teacher didn't hear us.

When maths had finished we had art, my favourite. As it was a beautiful sunny day our teacher, Miss Green said we could paint outside. She was a friendly teacher and reminded me of Granny.

At lunch we sat out in the picnic area, mum had packed me cheese and ham sandwiches and some crisps and fruit. Kitty had some sushi, I never understood her love for sushi, I couldn't stand it. Yuck! We had just finished lunch when I spotted the dark-haired girl from class and one of her friends coming towards us, I shuffled closer to Kitty. As she walked past she barged into me and said "You oughta watch where you're going ginge," then looked at her friend and laughed stupidly.

Kitty was about to reply when one of the teachers walked past and said that lunch was about to finish and we should be moving along to our classes, which did not give Kitty any time to say anything back to the other girl. I nodded in agreement and pulled Kitty so we could head into school. I really hoped we didn't see that girl in any of our afternoon classes, knowing Kitty she would say something and get detention. Our parents would be so angry if we got detention on our first day.

The rest of the afternoon passed by in a haze as our heads filled up with stuff, we had Science with Mr Hadsworth, who seemed rather strict and gave out a few detentions to the naughty kids. We also had English with Mrs Tipp, she was a kind-faced little old lady, I really liked her. She made her classes fun to be in and learning seem pretty easy.

I was glad when I heard the bell ring for home time, I couldn't wait to tell mum all about my first day. I had had a good day and enjoyed most lessons, having Kitty there made the day pass quickly, the only downside was lunch when that stupid girl called me "ginge", I don't think I should tell Mum, I don't want her to worry.

Stay tuned for chapter 11 :)
